Keg Cooling for Events
Flash coolers, python lines, glycol chillers and keg jackets: how we keep draught beer cold on a bar, in a marquee and outdoors. Hire the kit through draught system hire.
Why the keg has to stay cold
A tap only pours well if the beer is cold before it leaves the keg and stays cold on the way to the glass. Warm beer foams. A cold python with a warm keg still pours warm after a few pints. Outdoor jobs and marquees make this worse.
Event cooling is not a cellar. We spec the cooler to the bar, the run to the taps, and the weather. See all guides for gas, couplers and pouring.
Flash cooler hire
A flash cooler chills the beer as it passes through the unit at the bar. That is the kit we actually put under most event bars: keg, flash cooler, gas and python packed into a portable unit.
We have used this setup in a Soho office bar, a Warwick courtyard, an eight-tap wedding rig and a Peak District Airbnb. Flash cooler hire is not a separate product. It is part of draught system hire or keg hire.
Python lines
The python is the insulated beer line from the cooler to the tap. The cooler chills the beer on its way through. That is why a clamp-on font on a table can still pour cold if the cooler and python are specced correctly.
On a hot day the python alone is not enough if the keg itself warms up. Then we add a jacket on the keg.
Remote coolers and glycol chillers
Some jobs need the cooler away from the tap, or enough capacity for a long run or a high-output bar. Our draught systems can include glycol chillers or cold plates where that is the right kit, not only a flash cooler at the font.
We do not list a standalone “remote cooler hire” SKU. Tell us the bar layout, how far the kegs sit from the taps, and the guest count. We spec flash, python or glycol from that.
Keg cooling at outdoor events
Marquees, courtyards and fields heat the keg. Two things matter: shade and an actively cooled keg jacket connected to the cooler, so the whole keg stays cold, not only the beer in the python.
Outdoor bars need level ground and a standard 13-amp socket within reach. We have poured Extra Cold from an insulated keg under a bar in the Peak District, and from a flash cooler under a rustic bar in Warwick.
Cask ale is a different problem. For stillage and cask jackets see cask cooling hire.
Spare coolers and fridge hire
Draught cooling is for the tap. Bottles, cans and backup stock need a fridge. That is fridge hire — undercounter or upright, delivered and collected.
If a hired fridge fails during the event, we respond by phone, email or WhatsApp and can provide a replacement fridge. For a draught cooler or a pub cellar that is down, see temporary draught and glycol cooling hire. We do not publish a call-out time. Call or send the postcode, the number of lines and what failed.
What to tell us
- Indoor hall, marquee or outdoor
- How many taps and how far the kegs sit from the bar
- Whether you already have kegs, or need keg hire
- Power on site (a 13-amp socket is the usual ask)
We then spec the cooler, python, gas and couplers. Wrong gas is a different fault — see CO₂ vs mixed gas.
